China’s National Energy Administration (NEA) reported on March 20 that the country’s installed solar power capacity reached 930 gigawatts (GW) by the end of February, marking a 42.9% increase from a year earlier.
As of the first two months of 2024, China’s total installed power generation capacity stood at 3.4 terawatts (TW), up 14.5% year-on-year. Solar power capacity accounted for 930 GW, rising 42.9%, while wind power capacity reached 530 GW, an increase of 17.6%.
Between January and February, the average utilization of power generation equipment nationwide was 505 hours, down 61 hours compared to the same period last year. During this time, major power companies invested RMB 75.3 billion in power generation projects, a slight 0.2% increase year-on-year. Investment in power grid infrastructure, however, surged to RMB 43.6 billion, up 33.5% from a year earlier.
