Windey, a leading Chinese energy company, has secured the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the Honduras Energy Storage Project, the first of its kind in Central America. The project, awarded in partnership with Honduran power company EQUINSA, marks a significant milestone in Windey’s global expansion into the energy storage sector. This breakthrough not only signals Windey’s official entry into the international energy storage market, but also strengthens its foundation for future growth abroad.
As a national priority project, the energy storage facility will enhance the stability of Honduras’ power grid and improve its ability to integrate renewable energy sources. Honduran Minister of Energy Erick Tejada highlighted the project’s significance, stating: "This will be a pioneering initiative for Central America and the largest energy storage installation in the region. It will not only reinforce our national energy infrastructure but also optimize energy distribution, playing a key role in shaping Central America’s energy future."
The project follows the July 2024 signing of the first China-Honduras Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on clean energy cooperation, marking another step forward in bilateral collaboration.
Despite navigating a new market and facing strong international competition, Windey successfully delivered a high-quality proposal, demonstrating its technical expertise and project execution capabilities. The contract win paves the way for the company’s expansion into Latin America and further participation in the global energy storage sector.
