In a significant step towards advancing carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology, the Central Enterprises CCUS Innovation Alliance was officially launched at a conference in Beijing, co-hosted by China Huaneng Group and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) under the guidance of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) of the State Council. The alliance comprises 26 central state-owned enterprises, local state-owned enterprises, universities, and research institutes, all working together to tackle the strategic demands of the CCUS industry.

The primary objective of the CCUS Innovation Alliance is to establish a comprehensive platform that links the entire CCUS value chain, from upstream to downstream. The alliance will focus on overcoming critical technical challenges, developing a robust framework for standards related to carbon capture, transportation, and storage, and accelerating the commercialization and marketization of CCUS technologies.

Wang Xiaoliang, Deputy Director of the Technology Innovation Bureau at SASAC, highlighted the initiative's aim to mobilize domestic strengths and integrate resources to expedite CCUS market development. He emphasized the importance of close collaboration among members to enhance national strategic technological capabilities. Similarly, Wen Shugang, Chairman of China Huaneng Group, and Dai Houliang, Chairman of CNPC, underscored the significance of CCUS for achieving net-zero emissions in China. They outlined a commitment to tackle key technological challenges, strengthen collaborative efforts, and support the large-scale application of CCUS technologies across various sectors, ultimately enhancing China's energy security and fostering sustainable development.

The alliance aims to create a scientific and efficient working mechanism under SASAC's guidance. By focusing on integrating research, industry, and application, the initiative seeks to ensure the successful execution of CCUS projects, thereby contributing to national goals and establishing China as a leader in energy innovation.
