Who doesn’t love those fabric lined jewelry boxes from Pottery Barn Teen? My daughter really wanted one of them, but $80 is a bit much for a young child’s jewelry box. That’s when I saw the knock-offs at Target, and I was able to get a close up look at one and thought I can recreate this!

My daughter already had a really nice jewelry box already but you know how kids are, they like to add stickers to everything. Sticker glue is super hard to remove. It took some rubbing alcohol and good old elbow grease but I finally got the glue off.

The rest of the project was pretty easy, with some decoupage and sharp cutter or scissors you can make this glamorous makeover!

Glamorous Jewelry Box Updo

Supplies:

  • White matte spray paint
  • 1/4 yard of funky fabric
  • Mod Podge decoupage
  • Sponge applicator
  • Rotary cutter & mat
  • Hot glue & gun

Instructions:

This is our jewelry box before, there was a few stickers and glue on the outside finish.

The velvet inside is white and glued to cardboard.

Carefully remove all of the old velvet lined inside the box and drawers. Then  spray the outside of the jewelry box with white matte spray paint to freshen it up.

I used the velvet I pulled out as a pattern to cut the new fabric with a rotary cutter. Paint the interiors with Mod Podge, Then press the fabric on the wood and smooth out any wrinkles.

I did not coat the decoupage on top of the fabric because it was corduroy and I wanted the soft feel of the fabric for the jewelry to lay on.

For the ring holder, I pulled the foam bumps open, (do not take them off the card they were on), and put a line of hot glue in the creases, push the fabric down in between the foam humps with a piece of cardboard or a smoothing card for vinyl.

Hot glue the necklace holders back on, hot glue the ring holder back in and that was it!!

I love it, it looks just as fabulous as the ones in the stores, but mine was $3 for the fabric, everything else I already had on hand!
