Are you ready for some Halloween spookiness? I know I am! This haunted house glass pillar candle is a great project to get in the mood for Halloween. Plus, it’s pretty easy to make! I’ve already had people ask where I bought this candle holder, and that is always a compliment!
The glass candle pillars were bought off of Amazon, but I’m sure you can find similar elsewhere, perhaps even some thrift stores. I only used one for this project, and my daughter suggested I use the second for a Christmas scene. (She’s briliant!) Stay tuned for that!
The glass pillar that I used is 10 inches high and 5 inches in diameter. I had to pull out a little high school geometry to figure out the circumference of the pillar, because I wanted the house and tree and bats to all fit on the pillar nicely. So the formula for circumference is 2πr orπd if you are using the diameter. Ha! Just a little refresher for ya!
For the haunted house tree and bats, I used StyleTech Craft’s Ultra FX adhesive vinyl in Black Gold. This is a solid black vinyl with little flecks of gold glitter in it. The glitter is in the vinyl, so it doesn’t come off and make a mess. I love the look of the gold glitter specks in the black, it’s quite classy.
For the moon and the windows of the house, I used the transparent vinyl in Sunflower from StyleTech Craft, and I used the transparent Apple Green for the ghouly eyes.
While I cut out the house, bats, tree and moon with the Silhouette Cameo 4, I found it easier to just grab a pair of scissors and cut out each window and set of eyes in one piece, rather than a bunch of tiny pieces.
Once all the vinyl is cut out, clean off the glass pillar with alcohol prep pads or a glass cleaner and lint free cloth.
Cut a piece of clear transfer tape big enough to cover the haunted house. Pull up the house with the transfer tape. Stick the transparent vinyl windows and ghost faces on to the house. Starting at the middle of the house, slowly press the vinyl house on to the glass.
Repeat with the tree on the opposite side of the pillar. Lastly add the moon and place a couple of the black bats over the top of the moon and then in any places on the pillar that looks a little bare.
Smooth out any air bubbles. If there are some in the middle that won’t seem to go away, grab a pin and poke a teeny tiny hole in the air bubble to let the air out. The hole will be too small to see, and the air bubble will flatten.
